Tribal Trends

The recipe is simple. Start with bare basic natural materials, add in a palette of exotic textures with earthy tones, pop in an opulence of a few bright colours (maybe a bright yellow, green or turquoise) and finish it off by adding in some intricate yet simple bead work or feathers.

This is the trend of tribal. I became obsessed following DVF’s spring/ summer collection launch in 0’10 – and my love grew further when Rodarte’s show followed which had created such an intricate version of 'African Safari' Tribal. Now all I can do is sit in admiration at the opportunistic styling that can be created when you follow this trend. Enjoy being lost in your tribal roots. 

Carine Roitfeld

It has been Vogue news of the past month, when on December 17th, Carine Roitfield made the shocking announcement that she would be leaving French Vogue after serving 10 years as editor-in-chief. It is said that she stepped down from the position to pursue 'personal projects' and quote:

"It’s 10 years that I’m editor of the magazine, I think it’s time to do something different. When everything is good, maybe I think it’s the time to do something else."

With such a successful backbone, the bar is set high in anticipation to await what comes of these so called 'personal projects'. Carine sky-raced into the position after being a successful stylist for Tom Ford in 2001, and turned French Vogue into a magazine that appealed to the masses, rather appealing only to its dense-intellectual fashion fans. Now days, it is common to see the magazine contain images of nude women, in what we call fashion artism, and contain styling that is both quirky and appealingly flirtatious genius. 

Amidst Carine's most controversial days at the magazine where the days when she was hit with criticism from all animal-lovers upon her choice to continue to be pro-fur and allow the magazine to contain syling, and also covers, which contained nothing but women in fur. 

Her styling hit an all time genius mark when she styled Kate Moss - and created the iconic image of her in all her effortless beauty holding nothing but a hair clip.  Although she is now gone, she will always be remembered for her daring attitude and adventurous styling. 

Lily Aldridge

Its almost becoming a Christmas tradition, every December, of the past few years, the Victoria Secrets Fashion Show hits our television screens, and leaves us feeling like we shouldn't of eaten more of Grandma's pre-Christmas cookies. When watching the show, its like an oxymoron of emotions that capitulates inside of you - on the one hand you are in complete total awe of how truly beautiful and amazing these girls gracing your screen are; and then on the other you just wish they had one fault that would wipe the smile off their faces.. maybe just a tiny trip on the run way to know that are actually some form of human? 

All bitterness aside, I am a sucker for the show. I even started liking Katy Perry's 'firework' song as it appeared in context (NB: this pop phase only lasted after 5 listening)

 For me, there is one girl that i think is truly amazing, inside and out. She is the 'rock girl' of the group; Lily Aldridge. She is the girl that is always one to be found going to live music gigs throughout New York, is newly engaged to front man of Kings of Leon - Caleb Followill, and has attached to her persona a carefree and charmingly fun attitude. Its because she is not your 'typical' 'pink loving' angel, that she is my favourite VS. model. 

Oh and did i mention probably the most naturally beautiful girl around? I think the pictures below speak for themselves.
